Children’s Rights for All!
Monitoring the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child for children with intellectual disabilities
(2009-2011)
There are around one million children with intellectual disabilities throughout the European Union. These children often find themselves subject to discrimination and exclusion from society. They are frequently denied the right to good quality education, healthcare, recreation and services. In many cases, their families are also subject to discrimination and are denied access to adequate financial and emotional support.
Thanks to the funding from the European Commission, the project ‘Children’s rights for all!’ helped to promote the rights of children with intellectual disabilities across the European Union.
Led by Inclusion Europe, Eurochild and Charles University in Prague, the project was implemented between December 2009 and November 2011. Over a period of two years, it analysed the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child from the perspective of children with intellectual disabilities, by conducting research throughout the 22 Member States of the European Union.
The results of this research were compiled into a European report and 22 country reports unveiling the situation of children with intellectual disabilities across Europe. The outcomes of the project were officially launched at a conference in Brussels on 22 October 2011.
